Cancer Surgery
Expert, Personalised Surgical Care for Complex Cancers
I provide a comprehensive range of specialist cancer surgeries, focusing on cancers affecting the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. Many of these cancers may have spread (metastasised) from other primary sites such as the colon, kidney, or breast.
Complex Cancer Surgery
In addition, I am one of only a few surgeons in the UK specifically trained to treat cancers that have spread to the deep abdominal lymph nodes or soft tissues. This includes advanced procedures such as lymph node removal and complex multi-organ (multivisceral) resections.
Specialist & Collaborative Cancer Surgery
I work closely with a team of bowel and urology specialists, often performing joint operations when needed. This collaborative approach allows me to consider surgery for patients who may have been told their cancer is inoperable elsewhere. Together with oncologists, radiologists, and interventional teams, I ensure each treatment plan combines surgery with the most effective use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, or targeted radiological procedures such as ablation or embolisation.
Liver Surgery
Liver surgery (known as liver resection) is most often performed to remove tumours — either primary liver cancers or cancers that have spread from other organs (metastases).
Common indications include:
- Metastatic cancer (most often from the colon)
- Primary liver cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma or cholangiocarcinoma
- Tumours of the gallbladder or bile ducts
- Rarely, benign cysts or other growths that cause symptoms or complications
For most patients, surgery is only suitable if all visible cancer can be removed and there is enough healthy liver tissue left to support normal function.
